Relaxation Treatment

Del Ray Alexandria Relaxation Treatment

NuCalm

Here at DENTAL EXCELLENCE of Alexandria we want to PLACE YOUR MIND AND BODY IN THE RESTORATION ZONE during your dental visit.

NuCalm rapidly, safely, and predictably creates deep relaxation by mimicking patterns our brains recognize to help relax. This technology works naturally with the two channels of communication in the body — biochemical and electrical. NuCalm is comprised of four scientifically sequenced components that synergistically work on the GABAergic system to interrupt the adrenaline response and rapidly guide the brain to a deeply relaxed state. The four-step process includes: NuCalm Topical Cream Proprietary formulation of inhibitory neurotransmitters (amino acids) that interrupt the adrenaline response and prepare the brain for relaxation. The all-natural ingredients are hypoallergenic and regulated as GRAS (generally recognized as safe) by the FDA. NuCalm Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) A sub-sensory microcurrent is used to catalyze the effectiveness of the topical cream to interrupt the body’s natural stress response. Research shows CES helps balance the brain’s neurochemistry by reestablishing optimal neurotransmitter levels. The FDA cleared this Class III medical device in 1988 for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and insomnia. NuCalm Neuroacoustic Software Proprietary frequency-following response, neuroacoustic software that entrains brain wave function to Alpha and Theta frequencies (12Hz-4Hz). NuCalm Light-Blocking Eye Mask Blocks visual stimulation and maintains the relaxed state.

At DENTAL EXCELLENCE of Alexandria, patient comfort is our number one priority. Our dental chairs have fully integrated ErgoSoothe massage to put our patient at ease.

Oral Cancer Screening

Oral cancer includes cancers of the mouth and the pharynx (the back of the throat). Oral cancer accounts for roughly two percent of all cancers diagnosed annually in the United States. Approximately 35,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer each year and about 7,600 will die from the disease. On average, 60 percent of those with the disease will survive more than 5 years. Oral cancer most often occurs in people over the age of 40 and affects more than twice as many men as women.

It is important to find oral cancer as early as possible when it can be treated more successfully. An oral cancer examination can detect early signs of cancer. The exam is painless and takes only a few minutes. Your regular dental check-up is an excellent opportunity to have the exam. During the exam, your dentist or dental hygienist will check your face, neck, lips, and entire mouth for signs of cancer.

Del Ray Alexandria Mercury Free Dentistry

Mercury Free Dentistry

In an effort to practice more environmentally friendly procedures, Dental Excellence now employs amalgam free dentistry. When amalgam is used in dentistry, an amalgam separator is necessary to remove the amalgam waste particles from the dental office’s wastewater so that it does not infiltrate the dental unit vacuum lines. If the amalgam waste enters the vacuum lines, there is a possibility it can be discharged into the public sewer system. Using an amalgam separator helps reduce the waste discharge and reduce the mercury concentration in local wastewater treatment plants.

These practices help to minimize the concentration of mercury in sludge and helps us to practice greener dentistry efforts. This is a holistic effort that allows us to practice healthier dentistry for our patients and for the environment. Not only is amalgam removed as a potential threat to the water supply, but the threat for mercury poisoning in patients is lowered. We are qualified to remove and replace any mercury amalgam silver fillings in patients that wish to switch to a healthier material for their fillings.

Removing mercury amalgam fillings must be done by a certified practitioner. Unsafe removal of amalgam fillings can generate toxic amounts of mercury vapor, much more than the maximum level of mercury vapor allowed by regulations. Patients must be protected from exposure to these toxic vapors during the removal process. Mercury safe dentists such as those at Dental Excellence must have the proper skills necessary to perform this type of removal in order to keep the patient safe from any toxic side effects.

Mercury Safe Removal

At DENTAL EXCELLENCE we use Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Protocols that protects the patient, as much as possible, from unnecessary and excessive exposure to mercury during filling removal.

Amalgam Separator

Amalgam separators are devices that are installed on dental unit vacuum lines in order to catch all waste amalgam and other solid materials, before it is discharged into the public sewer system.

The main reason why it is now important to reduce amalgam waste discharge from dental office comes from the urgency of local wastewater treatment plants to lower their mercury output.

The American Dental Association’s “Best Management Practices for Amalgam Waste“ (BMPs) include the use of amalgam separators. Although there is no national regulation requiring the installation of amalgam separators, here at DENTAL EXCELLENCE, we practice Green Dentistry and want to take great care of our patients and environment.

Bio-compatible Dental Material

As the dental field has changed over the years, teeth repair has many options available. The objective of dental care has always been to create materials that mimic natural teeth as closely as possible, both aesthetically and functionally.

In recent years, there has been increasing interest about dental materials that include toxic compounds, most commonly the mercury found in silver dental fillings. Mercury is one of the most toxic metals present in nature and is an integral part of silver amalgam fillings.

At DENTAL EXCELLENCE of Alexandria, in addition to concerns of Bio-compatibility, when deciding on a restoration, we have to take into consideration how big or small the imperfection is that needs to be repaired, the tooth funtionality, and the biting surface involved. Strength, sturdiness over time, and appearance should all be considered when choosing a restorative material.

Composite Fillings:

Composites are a mix of tooth colored plastic and glass-like particles. The material bonds strongly and is impervious to wear and tear. This material is best used for relatively small fillings and parts of the mouth where there is not excessive pressure from chewing/biting.

Inlays:

Tooth strength is often comprised when damage gets to be too much. Teeth that have very large silver amalgam fillings frequenly crack, sometimes far enough into the tooth structure. The best option for this type of damage is a ceramic or gold, onlay or full crown, which completely covers the tooth.

Water Filter System

Here at DENTAL EXCELLENCE your well-being is our number one priority and we have water purification system which eliminate the bio-film in our pipes, tubing, waterlines and equipment. Thanks to our water filter system, Dental Excellence is able to put your health first. Our water purification system eliminates bio-film from pipes, waterlines, dental equipment and tubing. The American Dental Association Board of Trustees and ADA Council on Scientific Affairs states that water delivered to patients during nonsurgical dental procedures contain no more than 200 cfu/ml of bacteria at any time within the unfiltered output of dental units. Dental unit water systems that are made for general dental practices should be maintained regularly to deliver high quality water. The ADA states that the dental industry should ensure manufactured dental units be equipped with a separate water reservoir that is independent of the public water supply. This allows dentists to have more control over water quality standards used in their patient care.

The CDC also recommends that dental waterlines be flushed each day to reduce microbial loads. Water filter systems should still be employed to treat the biofilm within waterlines and reliably improve quality of water so that it may meet drinking standards. This may include the use of separate water reservoirs, source water treatment systems, filters, and daily draining regimens. The strict adherence to these protocols can help us sustain healthy water for our patients and uphold the quality of our dental unit water systems. Dental Excellence is committed to these practices and using only the most quality water filter systems to aid in our patient’s health and safety. We consult with manufacturers of all dental units before initiating waterline treatment protocols as well.

LOW DOSE Digital X-ray

Dental x-rays are a necessary tool in diagnosing dental problems and treatment planning. Many issues that can be seen with x-rays, including tooth caries (cavities), root tips/fragments, fractures, bone loss, pathology/cysts, impactions and so much more are not visible to naked eye. At DENTAL EXCELLENCE of Alexandria, our goal is to minimize your exposure to dental x-rays by offering very low dose DIGITAL x-rays, which are the safest x-rays you can have!

Laser Cavity Finder

Here at DENTAL EXCELLENCE of Alexandria we utilizes the highest laser technology for caries detection. DIAGNOdent laser caries detection aid allows for more accurate diagnosis of cavities.

Early detection of any disease or infection can make the difference between a healthy recovery and a downward spiral. When it comes to caries, early detection means appropriate preventive and restorative treatment can be provided promptly. Otherwise, decay can progress to become unsightly, undermine the bulk of the dentin, and infect the pulp, making unpleasant root canal therapy the most likely option.
