There are many philosophies throughout the world that exist as it relates to health. Mainstream medicine, the common approach to healthcare in our country, is merely one of them. With its focus on specialization and treating symptoms, it aims to deal with specific bodily issues within certain bodily systems. But the management or absence of symptoms is not the same as being in good health.
Holistic, meaning “to make whole”, takes another approach, which is to balance the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual energies. Since ancient times, the viewpoint is that the body is capable of healing itself by identifying and eliminating the cause, bringing systems and energies into balance and boosting the immune system. It follows that with participation, enhanced health and wellbeing can be achieved.
